got hit just 2 months ago, back on november 13th. during that heist, the thief broke in and smashed cases containing gold nuggets worth thousands of dollars. that break-in was the first in recent history. today marks day three in the search for human remains in linden, california. >> this case is related to speed freak killers wesley shermantine and loren herzog. the two men who went on a methamphetamine - induced killing rampage in the 1980's and 90's. one thousand bone fragments were found last year in an abandoned central valley well. so far, no human remains have been found. kron 4's j.r. stone is following the story and joins us with new information. j.r.? >> reporter: there was a major setback the fbi is expected to start digging all of the wanted to do that today or late yesterday. that has yet to happen they

kron 4 news. >> pam: rain and cold hitting the bay area, and the possibility of snow ahead! you're looking live from walnut creek, where the grounds are still wet from showers. now a live look from our mount tamalpais camera, and san francisco -- you can see the grey skies. i'm here in the kron-4 weather center with jacqueline bennet. jacqueline? >> we are seeing some light rain. the shower activity will not be that extensive. you can see light rain over the heart of the bay. over the coast, ocean beach, san rafael. we can also see some rain over the golden gate right now and the richmond/a vital bridge. also, sinophile bridge. through cupertino, pushing-south to the sinophile branch. winds gusting pretty strong to the coast. some rafeal-san rafael--bridge. and also

some shower reconditions with breezy conditions to richmond. and that is starting to press through the north bay with the increase in shower activity. this larger view of satellite & radar. spotty shower activity will provide instability will talk more about this in the showers coming up. brigha >> pam: the baseball hall of fame votes are in. and former giants slugger barry bonds was *not elected this year. in fact - no players were elected at all. joining us now, grant lodes is here to break it down for us. grant - several well known players on the ballot this year -- but, several tainted by steroid allegations. >> bonds, roger clemens, and sammy sosa. all three have been tainted by performance enhancing

drugs. and all three players did not even come close to making the hall of fame. down. players need at least 75 percent of the vote to be elected into the hall. bonds got 36.2% of the vote. clemens about the same. and only 12 and a half percent of baseball writers voted for sosa. sosa tested positive in a 2003 annonymous survey. clemens was aquitted of perjury charges related to performance enhancing drugs, but a his former trainer and a former teammate have testified clemens was cheating. and bonds has a felony obstruction of justice conviction to his name related to steroids. bonds says he never *knowingly used perfornamce enhancing drugs. local sports writer art spander has a vote.and he says the steroid issue is not a deal breaker for him. >> the real surprise is that

>> this is where everybody has an opinion to. we are asking you is the deserving. we will read your comments coming up in about 15 minutes. >> pam: now to a developing story. the coast guard says, an oil tanker that crashed into the bay bridge was 'warned'. prior to hitting the bridge tower. the warning apparently came from the vessel traffic service agency, which is in contact with large commercial ships on the bay. no word yet on exactly what was said. this is video from our helicopter partnership with abc-7 news -- just after the "overseas reymar" hit the bridge on monday. we'll have more on this story - tonight on kron4 news at six. >> catherine: dozens of people were hurt today after a ferry crashed into a dock in lower manhattan. the impact sent people flying. this photo shows a line-up of some of the injured passengers on the dock. investigators are trying to figure out what happened.

one passenger said the ferry usually 'glides' into dock. but today.it came in hard - with a huge impact. so huge. people who had been standing and waiting to get off were hurled to the deck -- into walls - and down staircases. >> i was actually sleeping will all of a sudden we hit. people were catapulting forward. >> i was standing up and i went backwards and hit a chair. people landed on top of me. >> when we hit the dock everybody went flying. that is why there are so many injuries. people were thrown down stairs. that is where most of the people got hurt. >> catherine: roughly 60 people were hurt. eleven of them seriously. at least two had major head injuries. you can see the big chunk taken out of the ferry when it hit. the catamaran called the 'seastreak wall street' had been on a routine trip from new jersey into lower manhattan.

google earth shows the spot where it docked.pier 11. the ferry just had a major overhaul that gave it new engines and a new propulsion system. investigators will be checking whether that played any role in the crash. records show the ferry was apparently involved in past less serious crashes. including one in 2009 and one in 2010. there were so many injured passengers today.they were sent to a string of different hospitals - including one in brooklyn. >> catherine: new evidence in the colorado movie massacre. the eerie photos -- prosecutors say the gunman took of himself -- just before the shooting. i'll have the story at 5-30. >> pam: but first -- a violent start to the day in san francisco. kron4 was there -- as a man was stabbed, just minutes after a shooting. that's after the break. >> also ahead -- the kings might soon be saying good- bye to sacramento. where the n-b-a team could be headed.

[ male announcer ] only from at&t. ♪ san francisco's potrero hill neighborhood. first at around two-am, a man shot, then less than an hour later - a man stabbed several times. this is video from the second crime - emergency responders tending to the victim near connecticut the man shot earlier was hit in the foot, while leaving his car. both attacks happened in the same area - near connecticut and 25th streets. the victims are expected to survive - no arrests made in either crime.

>> a candlelight vigil will be held tonight in honor of starr lamare-- the 25-year- old mother of three who was set on fire by her boyfriend after an argument at a san francisco laundry mat. glide is partnering with the san francisco domestic violence consortium to host the vigil for an evening of healing and reflection. the community will gather at 6:15 at the glide memorial in san francisco. we will have a report for you, then. >> pam: today work was done along an east palo creek to prevent flooding. last month heavy rains and a rising water level, forced the evacuation of 40 residents. a local state of emergency was declared as a result. kron4's maureen kelly shows us what steps were taken today.

>> now at 5-30. new evidence against the man accused of opening fire inside a crowded colorado movie theater. today - a preliminary hearing for james holmes ended. holmes is accused of killing 12 people and wounding 58 others during the showing of a batman movie. catherine heenan is here with more.

>> catherine: andwe've been getting a glimpse into the strange world of james holmes. today prosecutors displayed photos he took of himself before the shooting. no cameras were allowed.but there were sketches. one photo shows him grinning at the camera - posing with one of his glock pistols. another of the cell phone photos shows him sticking his tongue out -- his dyed red hair shaped to look like horns. prosecutors say holmes wore black contact lenses when it was taken. they say he also photographed his bed - which was packed with his arsenal. including a gas mask, helmet, an assault rifle and a shotgun. a judge is expected to rule by friday on whether there's enough evidence to move >> president obama's task force on gun violence is gettingmembers will come up with recommendations on how to prevent another mass shooting. sandra endo brings us up to

north of san francisco, and when i mentioned it is possibly through self san francisco. clearer skies. spotty cloud pattern to the north with a spotty showers near the coast. that could be a problem in the santa cruz mountains because this is turning very cold air if we have spotty showers along the santa cruz mountains we could see some spotty snow showers. a look at futurecast is right on track with the rainfall through the bay area. perhaps moving a bit too quickly. we will probably still see showers hauling grain by 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. and clear skies will continue. taking a look at the coast. offshore and along the san mateo coast and there it is your the santa cruz mountains. and we will still be dealing with snow

flurries of of 4,000 ft.. as it progresses, largely offshore with dry conditions. clear skies for tomorrow or. as for temperatures tomorrow they could be rather chilly. we did see lingering showers along the coast with cloud coverage possible. rom the coast 30's and concord. 30's in the santa rosa, fairfield to. hayward. temperatures will struggle to warm. we will see a lot of upper 40's. some places near 50. but it is not going to be that warm it is going to be quite chilly. 530 concord and the san jose. we are expecting a bit of snowfall with the winter weather advisory. and dictated to by the blue. this will be in effect

>> catherine: open after a tire blew out. but no one realized that there was an angry bull out there. the deputy was scared and has some bruised ribs and a bruised knee tonight. but he wasn't badly hurt. you'll see another deputy diving over the hood of his car to get away. they say they're just glad the bull didn't have horns. >> catherine: not long ago.scientists in north florida put a lot of effort into landing this great white shark. they gave it a name - "mary lee" - and they tagged her.

mary lee wasn't too thrilled about any of this. but now they say the tagging is paying off. aside from learning more about the routine of a great white. they know this one is getting too close for comfort to a jacksonville beach. the g-p-s tracking device indicates that mary lee got only about 200 yards away from shore. so beach police are telling people not to get into the water for awhile.
